Godrej Appliances has set a target to become the country’s second largest refrigerator maker and rank amongst the top three brands in washing machine and microwave ovens in two years, with aggressive plans to enter into collaborative agreements with technology partners. “”We plan to launch models with unique features and energy efficiency will be our selling point,”” says Godrej Appliances executive vice president (sales and marketing) Kamal Nandi. Godrej currently has 18% share in refrigerators and claims to share the third position with Whirlpool, after LG and Samsung. The company is the fifth largest microwave oven brand and fourth largest washing machine maker in India.
The latest plan comes within days of Godrej Appliances entering into a technology collaboration with Germany’s Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances to develop a new range of energy-efficient refrigerators. This range of highly energy-efficient refrigerators will be manufactured at Godrej’s manufacturing plant near Pune. The refrigerator range manufactured under this collaboration will be marketed by both the companies under their respective brand names and sales channel. Godrej Appliances expects to clock around 21% growth in revenue at Rs 2,500 crore this fiscal.
