The controversy surrounding the Beijing Olympics refuses to die down. Now, the Indian football captain, Bhaichung Bhutia has refused to carry the torch citing solidarity with the Tibetean cause.

“Decision not to carry Olympic torch is entirely personal, not political. I am not doing this on behalf of any organisation or group. I’m not even asking others to join me. Not carrying the Olympic torch was an obvious decision for me as I am against the violence and oppression in Tibet,” he said.

Meanwhile, another controversy is brewing as Aamir Khan has been roped in by Coca Cola to carry the torch. The Tibeteans in India are warning that they will commit self-immolation if Aamir Khan goes ahead with the torch relay.

I am no one to tell any group of people how they should conduct their struggle. I am not part of it and am not going through what they are going through. But my heart goes out to them.

I request those of you who have asked me to stay away from the Olympic Torch Relay to understand that when I do run with the torch on the 17th of April it is not in support of China. In fact it will be with a prayer in my heart for the people of Tibet, and indeed for all people across the world who are victims of human rights violations.

Meanwhile the German chancellor Angela Merkel has indicated that she will not attend the Beijing Olympics and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy maintaining that he might boycott the opening ceremony of the games. More fun ;)

tibet riots

After decades of the so called ‘peace struggle’ by the Dalai Lama, looks like the young Tibeteans are finally losing patience both with China and the Dalai Lama.

China’s worst-kept secret may be out for the whole world to see. Tibetan Opposition groups on Tuesday emailed pictures that show dead bodies, allegedly of Tibetan protestors killed by the Chinese forces on the streets of Lhasa.

The Tibetan groups claimed this was the scene in Aba County in China’s Sichuan province.

Another perennial needling point for China, Taiwan goes to the polls to elect its President this weekend and both the pro and anti China contenders are sharpening their claws.

The unrest in the Himalayan region and China’s response has turned a harsh spotlight on Taiwan’s own fraught relations with Beijing, which still claims sovereignty over the self-ruled island.

Election frontrunner Ma Ying-jeou, who has vowed closer ties and a peace treaty with China, has been forced onto the defensive against charges by his rival Frank Hsieh that Taiwan could end up like Tibet under Chinese rule.

Isnt life ironical? After decades of formenting trouble in Kashmir and other parts of India, Pakistan is in deep trouble with their own jehadi brothers bombing the hell out of Pakistan daily. China for decades supplied nuclear technology and weapons to Pakistan to contain and needle India. China never wanted a stable India as it never wanted to see India as any sort of economic, political or military rival to itself in Asia.

Today, China is rocked by riots in Tibet, in the muslim dominated area of Xinjiang, political heat emanating from Taiwan and daily riots by people displaced by growing wealth disparity.

Life’s finally coming full circle, eh? More about the farce that is China and its so called ‘peaceful rise’ here and here.

The world shows the 'middle finger' to China

dalai lama

The Dalai Lama visiting Steve Irwin’s family in Australia

First it was Australia, then Germany and now the USA. Each and every country is looking at the Chinese protest against hosting the Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama as nothing but a case of a ‘barking dog’. Now, the US has even presented the Dalai Lama with a medal.

To protest, China has hijacked US websites like MSN, Google and Yahoo and diverted its traffic to its homegrown search portal Baidu. Why does China always behave like a small kid in a store whose mother refuses to buy him candy? No matter what the economic growth, China will never behave like a responsible global power. That’s its nature. The ruling communist government will keep raking up nationalistic feelings to justify its existence and to deny the people of China any form of democratic government. That’s the only way the commies can retain their hold on power.

Its exactly why China has such a hostile attitude towards India. Because India gave refuge to the Dalai Lama and his people when Tibet was encroached upon and the local tibeteans persecuted. Its just the double standards of the world community that refuses to see the truth that one of the biggest genocide in the modern era continues in Tibet. China has killed more than a million tibeteans to impose its rule in Tibet. And, look at what the world is barking at? Myanmar, Sudan, Iraq, Iran, North Korea.

The world’s worst violator of human rights is none other than China. And the world has no problems doing business with it. No wonder the priorities of the world is so fucked up.

tibet

Some 30 Tibetan exiles protesting Chinese religious policies stormed the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday, with several breaching the front gate and chaining themselves to the flag pole inside, police and witnesses said.

Others repeatedly sprayed “Free Tibet” in red paint on the embassy walls and the main gate before many of the demonstrators were forcibly taken away by police.

The activists were protesting a recent Chinese order that Beijing must approve all of Tibet’s spiritual leaders, known as Lamas. For centuries, the search for the reincarnation of lamas- including Tibet’s spiritual head, the Dalai Lama- has been carried out by select Tibetan monks.
