Given below is a copy of the manifesto of the protest being organised at Gateway of India, Bombay by concerned citizens of our country.  A simultaneous protest is also being organised at Tank Bund – Hyderabad, Connaught Place – New Delhi and Cubbon Park – Bangalore.

This protest will be held every Wednesday starting today and will snowball into all the cities of India.  Every Wednesday henceforth will be known as “Day of National Shame”.  If you agree with the manifesto and if you can make it to the protest meet, BE THERE.  Or do your bit by spreading the word through emails, blogs etc.

—————————- Start of Manifesto——————————————

WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA have had enough.

  • Enough of terrorist attacks that threaten our lives and that of our loved ones and rip apart the fabric of our cities and our society
  • Enough of politicians of all parties who fiddle while terrorists burn, then seek to appease our anger with platitudes and pointless ‘resignations’
  • Enough of excuses from prime ministers and accusations from wannabe prime ministers
  • Enough of the empty rhetoric of governments that promise action but give us only inquiry commissions
  • Enough of the callous unconcern of the political class that has resulted in this country we love being subjected to constant attacks from external forces.
  • We have left this country in your hands for all these years, hoping that you will do what we elected you to do. You have failed us – miserably, and on every front.

We have had enough. And we are, from this moment on, taking the country back into our own hands.

WE DEMAND:

That all political parties in India at the state and central level abandon their narrow concerns and come together immediately to formulate, and announce, a consensual national policy on the subject of internal security; we demand further that all parties pledge to uphold this national policy irrespective of who is in power.

We demand that the government of India, with the backing of all political parties, immediately announce the launching of a zero-tolerance war against terrorism, internal and external. In this connection we demand that you immediately and publicly lay on the table all evidence relating to Pakistan’s involvement in these continued attacks on Indian soil. We further demand that you employ the full force of diplomacy to bring the nations of the world into a unified front to support any and all appropriate action that needs to be taken on the basis of evidence available. We pledge that we will boycott the goods of any country that refuses to side with India in the lawful defense of the integrity of its territory and the lives of its citizens.

We demand the creation of one central agency to handle all intelligence gathering and processing activities, in order to fix both responsibility and accountability.

We demand the immediate creation of NSG units in all metropolitan and A category cities’

We demand that the NSG and the police force be provided with state of the art protective gear, equipment, dedicated aircrafts, artillery, arms, ammunition and all else that is required, in the judgment of security experts, to defend our lives and to combat terrorism.

We demand the immediate adoption and implementation of police reforms as and ordered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. We demand that control of the police force be taken away from the political class, and that the police be made accountable to law, and to no other power. We further demand that the pay scales of our police and paramilitary forces be immediately raised in order that they may serve the cause of law and order without financial worry

We demand that the political process, the bureaucracy, the police and judiciary be made transparent, responsible, and accountable to the citizens of India through a complete overhaul of the existing process.

We demand the immediate strengthening of our borders by land and by sea. WE ASK that the government and leaders of all political parties give us an immediate assurance that these demands will be fulfilled in the soonest possible time frame.

We pledge that if our demands are not met, we will from this moment on not cast our votes in a single election, at the state or national level. Instead, we will use the provisions of Section 49-O of the People’s Representation Act [I am not sure of this, pl check] to its utmost. We will go to the polling booth, and register ourselves as not voting, thus forcing the countermanding of the election and the dismissal of the candidates. We pledge to do this until our concerns are addressed.

Secondly, we pledge that until our demands are met, we will not pay our taxes.

We are law abiding citizens, however, and hence we will deposit our taxes in a fund to be called the “COUNTER TERRORISM ACTION FUND”, maintained with one of the Nationalised Banks.

These funds will be made available to you when our above demands have been met – but not before.

If you believe in the settlements expressed, please sign the declaration herein below and mail it to P.O. Box. No. _____. Alternatively, log on to www.___________ where a version of this declaration exists and add your name to it. And join the “NO CONFIDENCE” movement.

If millions of citizens join this movement by signing this pledge, our message will be unmistakable and will surely be a wake up call for the entire political class forcing them to be responsible and accountable to every citizen and to Act now rather than indulge in rhetoric or play petty politics.

Moon Impact Probe reaches the moon

In a historic event, the Indian space programme achieved a unique feat today (November 14, 2008) with the placing of Indian tricolour on the Moon’s surface on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. The Indian flag was painted on the sides of Moon Impact Probe (MIP), one of the 11 payloads of Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, that successfully hit the lunar surface today at 20:31 hrs (8:31 pm) IST. This is the first Indian built object to reach the surface of the moon. The point of MIP’s impact was near the Moon’s South Polar Region. It may be recalled that the modern Indian space programme was initiated in 1962 when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister of India.

Weighing 34 kg at the time of its launch onboard Chandrayaan-1, the box shaped MIP carried three instruments – a video imaging system, a radar altimeter and a mass spectrometer. The video imaging system was intended to take the pictures of the moon’s surface as MIP approached it. The radar altimeter was included to measure the rate of descent of the probe to the lunar surface. Such instruments are necessary for future lunar soft landing missions. And, the mass spectrometer was for studying the extremely thin lunar atmosphere.

MIP’s 25 minute journey to the lunar surface began with its separation from Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft at 20:06 hrs (8:06 pm) IST. This was followed by a series of automatic operations that began with the firing of its spin up rockets after achieving a safe distance of separation from Chandrayaan-1. Later, the probe slowed down with the firing of its retro rocket and started its rapid descent towards the moon’s surface. Information from the its instruments was radioed to Chandrayaan-1 by MIP. The spacecraft recorded this in its onboard memory for later readout. Finally, the probe had a hard landing on the lunar surface that terminated its functioning.

Thus, India’s very first attempt to send a probe to the moon’s surface from its spacecraft orbiting the moon has been successfully concluded.

earth-from-chandrayaanWith the switching ON of two of Chandrayaan-1’s payloads – Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC) and Radiation Dose Monitor (RADOM) – on its journey to moon and with MIP’s successful impact on the lunar surface today, it is planned to switch ON and test the remaining eight payloads of the spacecraft in the coming few days.

It may be recalled that Chandrayaan-1 was successfully launched by PSLV-C11 on October 22, 2008 from India’s spaceport at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota into its intended initial elliptical orbit around the Earth. Following this, the spacecraft’s orbit was raised in steps and it was made to pass near the moon by repeatedly firing its 440 Newton liquid engine. After Chandrayaan-1’s entry into its planned lunar orbit on November 8, 2008, the orbital height was reduced in steps to its intended operational altitude of 100 km from the lunar surface.

moon-surfaceSince its launch, the health and orbit of Chandrayaan-1 is being continuously monitored from the Spacecraft Control Centre of ISRO’s Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore with critical support from antennas of Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu. IDSN antennas have also received the images and scientific information gathered by TMC, RADOM, and more recently, by MIP.

Intel's new six-core Xeon developed in Bangalore

Intel unveiled the Xeon 7400 family of server processors, code-named Dunnington, including its first six-core design. The range includes three low-voltage versions, whereas the 7300 range had one, and Intel is claiming “the lowest watts-per-core usage of any device in their category”.

It’s the first microprocessor for the mass market that [Intel] has developed almost exclusively at its design centre in Bangalore in a milestone for the research and development of computer hardware in India.

“It’s not just services and software that India is known for but this shows you also can do this kind of complex research and development and product design here in India,” said Praveen Vishakantaiah, president of Intel India.

AMD is trailing Intel at the 45nm level, and its six-core server processor, code-named Istanbul, isn’t expected until next year.

Intel has already benefited from developing chips outside the US. Its lab in Israel came up with the Banias processor used in the original Centrino design for laptops. Intel then abandoned the US-designed high-clock-speed Pentium NetBurst architecture and switched to the new Core Duo design, Yonah. A six-core chip isn’t exactly a novel idea but success should certainly enhance the Bangalore lab’s credibility.

Pankaj Advani decimates Geet Sethi for the World Billiards crown

Its so rare to see a sport where Indians simply reign supreme.  All the 4 semi-final spots were Indians :D

It turned into a mid-afternoon coup. The Crown Prince usurped the throne from the King. On this ‘Teacher’s Day’ an accomplished student — Pankaj Advani — stood up to salute the packed hall at the KSBA after his 6-1 annihilation of Geet Sethi, an eight-time winner of world billiards, in the best of 11 frames final of the ONGC IBSF World billiards championship.

“This fifth World title to me is special. Though it’s just a year ago that I won the fourth at Singapore, this felt like a long time coming. And it came in the place I grew up playing the sport and in front of my home crowd,” said an elated Advani.

At 23, Advani has already amassed five world and two Asian billiards titles besides an Asian Games gold. On Friday he added his latest title, a comprehensive 150-90, 151-0, 150-24, 150-0, 86-150, 150-72, 150-12 victory over Sethi and $1,500 to go along with it.
