The incomplete Bandra-Worli sealink in Bombay was formally inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi yesterday.  The second carriageway of the sealink will only be completed by the year end.  For a project that has already been in the making for more than 10 years, why the hurry to inagurate it so fast, when its yet to be completed?  Is it something to do with scoring some brownie points just before the Maharashtra assembly elections?

Also, why name the bridge after Rajiv Gandhi? What did he do to deserve the name on the bridge?  Was he the mason or the engineer or the company that executed the project? Havent we had enough of the Gandhi names adorning everything in the country?  Is there no one in the billion odd citizens of India who can be honoured with their name on the bridge.  Anyway, why cant we stick with the original name of the bridge, Bandra Worli Sealink (BWSL)?

Couldnt the sycophants of Congress not find a single person from the hundreds dead in the terrorist attack last year whose name could be adorned to the bridge? Does the UPA have any plans to change India’s name to Gandhistan or Rajivistan?

I would support any move by the government that would name all our public toilets after Rajiv or Indira Gandhi.  That would be one project i would be happy to see named after the Gandhi family.  How about Rajiv Gandhi Shauchalaya or Smt Indira Gandhi Toilet ?

Why doesnt the sycophant Congress workers plan something on this matter? Am sure their dear madam, Sonia Gandhi wont object to something so noble.

Why BJP still doesnt get it

On one hand, Advani wants youngsters to be promoted in BJP;  and on the other hand he clings on to the leadership position in the party inspite of the humiliating defeat in the recent elections under his leadership.

Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani today asserted that the party’s leadership should shed its “train compartment mentality” and evolve a system to encourage young leaders.

Delivering the concluding address to the party’s two-day national executive meeting here, Advani said: “The party has to urgently evolve a system of encouraging younger leaders at all levels.

“But I have heard many young activists tell me that they are not given opportunity to serve the party more effectively,” said Advani, 81.

He lamented: “It is sad that a certain ‘train compartment mentality’ has got developed within the party, which makes those in leadership positions to ignore promising, talented and committed cadres who are standing ‘outside’ and waiting for the door to open.”

He said this had to change and the party must think into the future. Advani said: “We must identify, train, groom and empower third, fourth and fifth generation of leaders in the BJP. Our leadership planning should take into account the party’s needs for the next twenty years.”

After a few days of chintan baithak, the BJP decides that they should follow something called Inclusive Hindutva.  Not sure what it means.  Is BJP accepting that its brand of rabid Hindutva project has failed and its time to find out if people will fall for another game called “Inclusive Hindutva”? If so, what will hate mongers like Varun, Modi, Muthalik and the rest of the chaddi gang do then?

As per this tweeter, Inclusive Hindutva sounds more or less like…

BJP talks about Inclusive Hindutva. Hmm how about Vegetarian Tandoori Chicken?

Bumper Monday after Super Saturday

With the commies and regional parties out of the reckoning, the stock market is going to give a real high five when it opens today in approx 2 hours from now.  I would reckon at least a 500 point upside for the BSE.  Like some panelist commented on CNBC-TV18 on Saturday, “the fact that we wont see Prakash Karat’s face on TV for the next few years itself is worth 500 points.” Well said.

5 years ago admist the uncertainity over the economic reforms , the stock market crashed by over 790 points to finish at around 4200 points as the UPA with the support of the Left came to power in May 2004.   Since then, the market touched 22000, crashed to 8000 and is now hovering around 12000.

With the commies not around this time and a decimated BJP, its time for the UPA to look at the real issues on ground.  We could look at FDI in retail and that’s sure to give a fillip to the economy in general.  Its probably time for Singh and his team to unleash the 2nd generation of reforms.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia seems to be in running for the post of Finance Minister.  Chidambaram would go back to his Home ministry (and hopefully do a good job of overhauling the creaking law and order machinery and intelligence gathering in the country).  Pranab Mukherjee is poised to be the External Affairs minister.  India would need his expertise a lot considering a volatile neighbourhood.  Hope Dayanidhi Maran comes back to Telecom/IT ministry.  We need a good minister for the post of Highways and surface transport unlike the previous scumbug, TR Baalu.  AK Antony will be the Defence Minister again.

Thank God, the moron Ramadoss is gone.  He was a pathetic joke.  Hope we will have some good Health minister who will work on the lousy public health that we have and the pathetic conditions of government run hospitals than spend his/her time watching if SRK is smoking on screen or picking up fights with the AIIMS chief.

Wonder if Advani has gone to the gym in the morning.  My prediction that Advani will NEVER become the PM of India came true.   He was, is and always will be an also-ran. At least with his new found love for exercising, he will die a healthy man physically.  Unfortunately, there can be no cure for his crooked and power hungry mind.

Here’s the best wishes for a great 2nd innings to the UPA led government.

India Votes 2009 – Results

Ok. So, the results are here and so is the results of the poll on this blog.  Though not as famous as the ones on IBN or NDTV or some other media, just 20 odd people voted here.  I wish i had put up the poll a month ago when India started voting, but it never came to my mind.  Anyways, now that the results are here, i would like to take off the polls as it serves no purpose anymore.

Given below is the results on the poll on this blog

election resultsAccording to the latest trends and the declared results, its been a virtual sweep for the UPA.  The NDA has been utterly humiliated in a lot of places. There are several reasons for both the results but the most important lesson for BJP is this.  LK Advani will NEVER be the PM of India.  NEVER. Dump him and his kind of politics if it really wants to challenge the Congress / UPA on a pan-India basis.  The only reason why the NDA / BJP won the elections in 1999 was because it had a moderate leader in the form of AB Vajpayee.

BJP / NDA lost the elections the moment it declared Advani as its PM candidate.  In one stroke, not only did it alienate all the minority votes, but also the moderate Hindus. Same is the case with Modi.  I have always believed that Modi would remain confined to Gujarat as its probably the only state where his type of politics work.  It has been confirmed again in this election.

The also rans and regional parties have also bitten the dust.  The message is simple, the people of India are fed up of regional, communal, communist and other divisive characters.  Time to strengthen the hands of a government that can unite people and not divide them on the basis of religion, region, caste, creed etc.

I would love to do a detailed analysis of this elections.  But that’s only after a few days.  Would like to see the voting patterns in all the states, the percentage of votes etc and then write.  Meanwhile here is the leads / results as at 1930 hrs (IST) on 16th May 2009.

UPA  – Won 192 – Lead 66 – Total 258

NDA – Won 123 – Lead 41 – Total 164

Third Front – Won 53 – Lead 24 – Total 77

Others – Won 29 – Lead 15 – Total 44

The BJP abused Sonia Gandhi in 2004 and lost.  They abused Manmohan Singh in 2009 and lost.  What does that prove?  A significant number of Indians might be uneducated and poor, but one thing that they do realise is that they never give into negative campaigning.

The “goongi gudiya“, “baccha” kind of comments are only good for claps.  They dont fetch you votes.  The earlier the BJP realises this, the better it is for Indian politics. And when, Manmohan Singh said these words, he hit the nail on the head

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday said he did not wish to have a live television debate with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani, as he did not want to accord him the privilege of being an alternative prime minister.

Bingo.

The commies can go back to the gutter from where they came.  Or else, they can migrate back to their mother country China as its their dictates that they follow anyway.

3 cheers to the public of the country.  3 cheers to the Election Commission of India for running a free and fair and relatively incident free elction.

Election Poll

7

Posted by Liju Philip | Posted in elections, India, poll | Posted on 13-05-2009

I have put up 2 new polls on the right side of this post.  One is to find out which will be the largest single party and the other is to find out which coalition will form the central government?

On May 16th when the votes are counted, i will put up a comparison between the results of the poll on this blog and the actual results announced by the Election Commission of India.

Let’s see if our predictions come true or the people of this country have something else on their minds.  Please note that multiple votes are not encouraged.

Thank you for participating.
