Criminals in Indian elections – Phase 2

criminals

A list of the number of people with criminal records in the current elections.  No matter all the rhetoric about cleaner candidates and elections, this poll has also fallen prey to people with shady characters.

Congress is the worst with 40 criminals out of 112 which means that a third of the candidates from India’s grand old party has a criminal record.  Its biggest competitor, BJP is not far behind with 27 of the 105 candidates with criminal records.  Mind you, these are only the candidates for the 2nd phase of elections. It just gives you an idea of how many are standing for elections in the other 4 phases.

If only, the voting public would see through the dirty games of the political parties and avoid them.  But then, with the kind of morons that make up our voting public, i wont be surprised to see most of these criminals in power soon.

Had been to Hyderabad for a short 4 day trip as my brother was getting married.  Back in Singapore in the morning, and was in the office early too.  But very tired as there was the usual crying of kids in the flight and combine with it the cattle class airlines called Tiger airways.  The seats are so close to each other that it seems that the seats have been designed for pygmies.

Travelled via a garbage dump of an airport called the Chennai airport, a so called ISO 9001 certified airport which they so proudly display on the airport.  But from the floor with lousy and dusty tiles to leaky and stinking toilets to a new domestic arrival hall where the aircon is set so low that its enough to freeze you to haphazardly placed tubelights in the cielings. The Chennai airport is the best example of a pathetic government and its abject apathy towards its citizens and the infrastructure.

If this is what the Airports Authority of India (AAI) can provide, its high time, the Chennai airport is handed over to some private company.  When you travel from the sleek, ultra efficient, modern and brilliant Hyderabad airport, Chennai airport reminds you of some village in the remote part of India.  Even the Chennai central railway station is the same, smelly and dirty.  Often making me wonder which moron named Chennai a Metro city.

People cutting queues while showing off their official powers, indifferent authorities, misplacing luggage, airport employees who steal stuff from your luggage, ripping off your hard earned money while paying for food is how you can describe the Chennai airport.  Just outside the airport you have a huge congregation of people waiting everytime as if some superstar is arriving.  With cars, buses, two wheelers and everything in such close proximity of the airport, its just a matter of time before you might hear about a terrorist attack there.  The policemen / women just go about their motions as if they are in la-la land.

And then look at the issues in our elections starting tomorrow, the Samajwadi Party has an agenda to get rid of English and Computers.  Meanwhile, the moron called Mulayam Yadav has both his sons studying in an english medium college. The same is the case with his chamcha Amar Singh.

Some moron wants to gift colour TV and another one free rice as if the national exchequer is their father’s property. The Election Commission should come out with a ruling that the party promising freebies in the manifesto should foot half of the bill for the freebies, then we can see the fun.

So, who do you vote for?  The openly communal BJP which talks and commits hatred against a section of people or who dont follow their Hindutava (dunno what kind of tava it is) manifesto or Congress who has perfected the art of playing divisive politics or the Communists who are nothing but agents of the Communist Party of China or the scores of uneducated and criminals with enough murders and rapes in their resume so as to be called legends in their fields?

You make the call.  Meanwhile, do go out and vote. Vote against divisive, communal, casteist, socialist parties and people with criminal records against their name (oops, that rules out most of the leaders of all parties).

The perils of procrastinating and staying at home instead of going out and voting. And then losing no chance to blame the situation we find our country in. A sarcastic look at the environment around us at Bleed India.

Did the govt know about the Bombay attacks earlier?

As the postmortem of the dastardly attacks in Bombay continue, its coming to light that both the state and the central governments had enough information of the Bombay attacks and yet did nothing.

On May 9 2007, the home minister was asked in the Rajya Sabha, whether “it is a fact that there are strong apprehensions of terrorist threats to the country through the sea route?” “As per available reports,” he answered, “Pak based terrorist groups, particularly LeT, have been exploring possibilities of induction of manpower and terrorist hardware through the sea route…” On December 8, 2007, the National Security Adviser, M.K. Narayanan, was educating the world at the 4th Regional Security Summit organised by the International Institute of Strategic Studies, the Manama Dialogue. “According to our intelligence reports,” he confided to the assembled sheikhs and experts, “there are now certain new schools that are now being established on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, which now specialise in the training of an international brigade of terrorists to fight in many climes. According to our information, recruits from 14 to 15 countries have been identified as amongst the trainees there… Training has become extremely rigorous — it is almost frightening in nature… Studies are being carried out about important targets, with regard to vulnerability, accessibility, poor security, absence of proper counter-terrorism measures, etc. The sea route, in particular, is becoming the chosen route for carrying out many attacks, even on land. References to this are to be found replete in current terrorist literature.” “Given India’s experience in dealing with terrorism,” he added, “I would like to therefore sound a note of warning, that there is no scope for complacency…”

Read the full article here.  It clearly shows that the government had full inkling of the threat.  The IB and R&AW were just collecting intelligence and passing on the threat info.  They in no way followed up on their tip to see if anything concrete on the ground was being worked upon.  Even if the state government was lethargic, how come the IB didnt apprise the Prime Minister of the threat?  Or did the Prime Minister also have an inkling but didnt make much of the threat?

Heads need to roll.  Shivraj Patil, RR Patil and Vilasrao Deshmukh have tendered resignations.  More needs to be done.  These fellows might be back in power in a few years from now.  Public memory is short. They easily forgive and forget.  But this is a wound we need to keep it fresh and raw.  Let the anger simmer.  Even if it means a routing of the Congress led UPA government in the upcoming general elections.

The one picture on the website of Huffingtonpost sums up the crisis the world markets, wall street is in.  Bush has in his 8 years of Presidency not only ruined America, but also the world economy.

I wont be surprised if the BSE Sensex hits the lower circuit breaker at least once today.
